There are plenty of things to see and do in Pattaya

Pattaya, once a quiet fishing village, is now a popular destination in Thailand. Planning your trip? This guide will show you the easiest ways to reach Pattaya by plane, car, and train. MeSpace Self Storage helps you enjoy everything this resort offers, luggage-free, thanks to its location.

How to Travel to Pattaya by Air

With the opening of U-Tapao airbase to commercial airlines, and positioned within about an hour and a half drive from Suvarnabhumi Airport, Pattaya is now conveniently located between two major airports.

International flights from Europe and further destinations fly into Suvarnabhumi Airport, and U-Tapao Airport handles regional airlines like Bangkok Airways and Thai AirAsia.

From either airport, taxis, grab taxis, and buses are available to take you to Pattaya.

Travel to Pattaya from Bangkok

Several travel options from Bangkok to Pattaya include buses, rail, or taxis.

Pattaya by Bus

You can take a public bus from the Eastern Bus Terminal near Ekkamai in Bangkok to Pattaya. The bus stops are scheduled on Sukhumvit Road in Pattaya, or you can continue to the final stop at the bus terminal in Jomtien.

Travel by Rail

If you enjoy rail travel, ordinary trains leave Bangkok Station once daily, and express trains run to Pattaya on the weekend.

Travel by Taxi

You can also hire a taxi from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Pattaya. The fares average around THB 2,000 per taxi, and the sedan cabs can hold up to four people.

How to Travel in Pattaya

Once you reach Pattaya, you still need to get around town. Luckily, there are five routes of "Baht buses" driving along the city's main streets.

Visitors can take the Baht bus from North Pattaya to Jomtien in the south. These buses are pickup trucks with two covered rows of seats in the back.

The buses cruise slowly up and down their routes, and people simply wave them down to hop on and ring a buzzer when they’ve reached their destination. Each ride costs ten baht south of North Pattaya Road, and another ten baht if you want to continue north of North Pattaya Road.

They're the primary mode of transportation for tourists and locals and run from early morning until after midnight. You can also hire a baht bus for private trips with friends and family.

If you’re properly licensed, there are plenty of motorbike rental shops all over the city. There are also taxis and motorbike taxis available for hire in Pattaya.

The central beach area of the city is easily walkable, and there are plenty of restaurants, bars, and shopping malls to keep you actively entertained.

Things to See and Do in Pattaya

Pattaya can be an excellent destination for a weekend getaway from Bangkok, requiring only about a two-hour drive. There are plenty of things to do and see in and around Pattaya, including:

  • Hit the Beaches: Pattaya and Jomtien Beaches offer kilometers of basking and exciting water sports.
  • Visit the cultural sites, including the Sanctuary of Truth, Big Buddha Hill (Wat Phra Yai), and Pattaya Floating Market.
  • Family Fun with Nature: Nong Nooch Botanical Garden, Underwater World Pattaya, and Khao Kheow Open Zoo (home of the world-famous Moo Deng).
  • Enjoy shopping and entertainment: at the Night Bazaar, Walking Street, and Pattaya’s shopping malls.
  • Fun on the golf course: Pattaya has close to 30 golf courses and is a prime destination for golfers in Thailand.

During Thailand’s hot summer months, many tourists enjoy shopping in the air-conditioned malls or lounging on the beaches and resort pools of Pattaya.

Pattaya's indoor activities attract more tourists during the rainy season, such as:

  • Underwater World Pattaya
  • Art in Paradise, 3D art museum
  • Louis Tussaud's Waxworks
  • Ripley's Believe It or Not!

Warm winter weather draws many golfers to Pattaya’s courses, while tourists hike the scenic trails near the Big Buddha on Pratumnak Hill. Beaches and boats are popular in winter, with people enjoying snorkeling and scuba diving from November to February.
