Use a travel checklist when packing for a visit to Thailand

Everyone should prepare themselves before traveling to Thailand, especially if it’s your first visit. We’ll offer a checklist covering everything you need to be aware of before getting on the plane.

We’re MeSpace Self Storage. We offer self-storage facilities and services that can make storing your luggage easy while you're in Bangkok, Pattaya, or Phuket. With MeSpace's self-storage capabilities, you can sightsee without worrying whether your luggage is safe. Visitors in Bangkok can also have their luggage delivered from the airport directly to their hotels or any destination you choose within the greater Bangkok area.

Travel Documents

The first item to cross off your Thailand travel checklist is the need for proper travel documents. You’ll need a passport with at least 6 months of validity remaining and a blank page for your visa or visa exemption stamp.

You should also check if your country is one of the 93 countries qualifying for Thailand's visa exemption program. If so, you won't need to buy a tourist visa in your home country, and can just get a visa exemption stamp when you land in Thailand.

You can apply at the Royal Thai embassy or consulate in your home country if you need a visa. You should also bring printouts of your hotel bookings, return flights, and evidence of sufficient funds while in Thailand. It’s also recommended that you arrange for international travel insurance in case of an emergency while you’re traveling.

Clothing and Packing Tips

Unless you’ll be in the hills of Northern Thailand during the winter, you’ll enjoy a warm, tropical climate.

Many people spend two weeks in Thailand and bring only a carry-on suitcase, saving them from waiting around at the airport luggage carousels and streamlining their flight logistics.

The items you should pack include:

  • Lightweight, breathable clothes for tropical weather
  • Comfortable walking shoes or sandals
  • A small umbrella or a lightweight raincoat
  • Swimsuits and beachwear
  • Prescription medications and travel-size personal toiletries, including sunscreen
  • Phone, electronics, and travel gadgets
  • Universal power adaptor
  • Travel apps for maps, translation, and transport recommendations

You can buy a local SIM card at the airport in Thailand or at any Thai convenience store. This will help you avoid expensive roaming charges on your home phone account. It will also simplify local phone calls if you need to change your plans or bookings.

Cultural and Practical Tips

Politeness and good manners go a long way in Thailand. You should learn a few basic Thai phrases to help you connect with the people you'll meet. Learning how to say “hello”, “please” and “thank you”, and learning how to pronounce and order your favorite dishes in Thai will endear you to the residents you meet.

Always behave respectfully and dress appropriately with legs and shoulders covered for men and women when visiting temples and cultural sites.

Local Transport Options

When traveling in Bangkok, you'll have several local transport options that will make it easier to see the sights and visit specific places. Local transport includes:

  • Taxis
  • Grab taxis (these work like Uber or Lyft)
  • Motorbike taxis
  • Tuk-tuks
  • Local rail lines of BTS, MRT, and Airport Express
  • Buses

You should always ensure your phone is fully charged when you set out to explore, as your phone can be a lifesaver. Using modern apps and AI tools to help you find appropriate forms of transport and help you navigate your way around the places you visit can make life easier.

Dealing with Thailand’s Climate

Many people learn to plan their sightseeing trips during the morning or late afternoon. They reserve the hottest midafternoon hours for relaxing on the beach or beside a pool or enjoying indoor, air-conditioned activities.

Please be aware that the sun can burn skin quickly in a tropical region. Be sure to apply liberal amounts of sunscreen in the morning before you go out and reapply it throughout the day. You should always carry an umbrella with you as well, whether it’s sunny or raining!

Money and Payments

To avoid forgetting anything, book and pay for as many hotel rooms and flights as possible while still at home.

You can pay for items in malls and chain stores by credit or debit card, and use the cards to get cash at any ATM in the country. It’s best to get in the habit of carrying at least THB 1,000 (around USD $30) in small bills and change. Small stores, taxis, and vendors will prefer cash.

Why You Need Luggage Storage in Bangkok

Why not store your luggage and enjoy a day of sightseeing

MeSpace Self Storage offers convenient luggage lockers in Bangkok, Pattaya and Phuket for just THB 50 per hour. Travelers hate to check out of their rooms in the morning and then spend the rest of their final day in Thailand shackled to their luggage and unable to see more of Thailand's sights.

The MeSpace Luggage Storage Service in Bangkok has smart lockers strategically placed in tourist destinations.

With CCTV and PIN access ensuring the safety of your luggage, you’ll enjoy a carefree day of sightseeing in Bangkok, Pattaya, and Phuket and still easily make your flight back home in the evening.

We also have an optional luggage delivery service. You can drop off your bags at MeSpace and have them sent to your hotel or the airport. Contact MeSpace Self Storage for more information about dependable luggage storage solutions while visiting Thailand.
